things can no longer leave the world.
dead things can no longer take action after their death.
characters no longer forget all their skills when they descend stairs.
arrows now pass through space before hitting their targets
weapons are now wielded with skill by those that possess it.
Chests, signs, bushes, decorative rocks, and crafting resources now exist.
Crafting skills can now be used to craft items at crafting tables.
NPCs now sell things they can make.

How do I use my equipped weapon instead of my fist? I tried clicking the weapon and then the arrow key toward my enemy, but it crashed, so I wasn't sure if that was right.

You're doing it right, there's just obviously a bug. Can I ask what weapon you were using, what skill level you have in that kind of weapon, and what OS you're playing on?
I was using an axe with 0 skill, and I'm on Windows 10. I haven't been back in (busy week) to see if it will crash again.
